Policy Commitment

Smt. Indira Gandhi PG College is committed to providing a safe, secure and dignified academic and work environment free from sexual harassment. The institution upholds the principles of equality, justice and respect while ensuring that all students, faculty members and staff are able to pursue academic and professional activities without fear, prejudice or intimidation.

In compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 and UGC Regulations, 2015, the College has constituted the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as a statutory body to address complaints related to sexual harassment in a confidential, impartial and time-bound manner.

Objectives of the Internal Complaints Committee

Prevent and prohibit sexual harassment at the workplace.
Provide a secure and confidential redressal mechanism.
Ensure compliance with POSH Act, 2013.
Conduct fair, unbiased and time-bound inquiries.
Recommend corrective and disciplinary measures.
Promote awareness and gender sensitization.
Ensure protection against victimization and retaliation.

The term workplace includes classrooms, laboratories, library, hostels, offices, campus premises, field visits, educational tours, online platforms and all institutional activities.

Definition of Sexual Harassment

As defined under Section 2(n) of the POSH Act, 2013, sexual harassment includes any unwelcome act or behaviour such as:

  • Physical contact and advances
  • Demand or request for sexual favours
  • Sexually coloured remarks
  • Showing pornography
  • Unwelcome verbal, non-verbal or digital conduct of sexual nature

Circumstances creating an intimidating, hostile or humiliating environment may also amount to sexual harassment.

Procedure for Filing a Complaint

  • Submit through prescribed complaint form.
  • Submit through email to ICC.
  • Submit written complaint to Presiding Officer.
  • Complaint should preferably be filed within three months.
  • Extension may be granted as per statutory provisions.
  • Assistance will be provided for filing complaints.
  • Confidentiality is maintained at every stage.
