The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Sanskrit (Research) is an advanced postgraduate programme designed to provide comprehensive knowledge of Sanskrit language, literature, philosophy and India's classical intellectual traditions.
The programme offers in-depth study of Vedas, Upanishads, Sanskrit Grammar, Linguistics, Indian Philosophy, Classical Poetry, Literary Criticism and Ancient Knowledge Systems. Students gain a deeper understanding of the rich cultural, philosophical and literary heritage of India.
The curriculum integrates traditional Sanskrit studies with modern academic approaches, enabling students to critically analyze texts, interpret philosophical concepts and explore historical developments in Sanskrit literature and thought.
Specialized courses in Pali, Prakrit, Apabhramsha, Dharmashastra, Puranas, Epigraphy and Paleography broaden students' understanding of ancient Indian languages, scripts and cultural traditions.
Research projects form an integral part of the programme, helping students develop skills in textual analysis, manuscript studies, academic writing and independent scholarly research, preparing them for careers in teaching, research, civil services, cultural institutions and higher studies.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university or institution.
Sanskrit should have been studied as a major, honours or optional subject in the qualifying undergraduate programme or an equivalent qualification recognized by the university.
Admission shall be granted according to the rules, regulations and admission guidelines prescribed by the affiliating university and the college from time to time.

In Semester II and Semester III, students must choose one complete specialization group (Group A or Group B). The syllabus clearly specifies that both papers must be selected from the same group. Each theory paper carries 5 credits and each Research Project carries 4 credits. A Minor Elective Paper of 4 credits is also mandatory as per NEP-2020 provisions.
